The 2006 Lifetime Achievement AwardMICK GARRIS
Mick Garris is a shining example of what one die hard horror fan can accomplish in the field of film and television with some hard work and a hell of a lot of talent. Mick got his start working for the Star Wars Company and Avco Embassy as a production assistant. His talent was quickly realized with behind the scenes footage he shot on such films as "The Howling" and "The Fog". After leaving Avco, Garris became a wanted man for his behind the scenes documentaries on such films as "Videodrome", "Gremlins", and "Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom". But it was his 1982 documentary "Coming Soon" with Jamie Lee Curtis that launched Mick into fame and started him on the road to become a horror legend. Later Mick became more famous for his partnership with Stephen King, reworking some of his greatest titles for television and theater. Two of Garris' accomplishments include Stephen King's "The Stand" and "The Shining". Mick now solidifies his place in the industry with his Emmy award winning brainchild "Masters Of Horror". The concept came over a simple dinner with friends; Mick put together what is now considered one of the most important televised horror show of all time! Mick Garris attended the festival to accept the award and presented the world premieres of two new Masters Of Horror episodes Valerie On The Stairs and "The NYC Horror Film Festival is alive with ambition and enthusiasm. It is a great place to debut a film, where the fans will let you know right away what they think of it. This is a festival for "one of us"! All my grateful thanks!" -Mick Garris
